Cheung Chau Bun + Coca-Cola

Hong Kong School of Design students design Cheung Chau Bun Coca-Cola bottle for the Olympic Games

The distinctive design of the "Cheung Chau Bun Tower" Coca-Cola bottle has won Luk Tsz-yan, Iris and Kung Tin-wing, Kelvin, students of SD, the championship at the "Art Jamming" (Hong Kong) Contest organized by Coca-Cola in February, 2008.

The winning design will be transformed into a 2-metre high Coca-Cola bottle and will be displayed at the Olympic Green in Beijing during the Olympic Games in August. As part of the winning prizes, Iris and Kelvin will be rewarded with free admission tickets for the Opening Ceremony and several matches.

A panel of seven judges have chosen the design by Iris and Kelvin as the champion from over 250 entries this year. Contestants were required to apply the tradition of arts, custom, literature, dramas and music of Hong Kong onto the Coca-Cola bottle in order to show the unique style and characteristic of Hong Kong.

Luk Tsz-yan, Iris and Kung Tin-wing, Kelvin are currently second-year students of BA (Hons) in Design in the disciplines of Advertising and Industrial & Product respectively at SD.
Their wining bottle is inspired by "Cheung Chau Bun Festival", the annual traditional event in Cheung Chau, and is fully covered by mini "Cheung Chau Bun" that has turned the bottle into a mini bun tower.

Iris and Kelvin have also altered the Chinese characters on the bun from its traditional characters "Peaceful" into "Brave", "Smart", "Fight", "Go", and "Hong Kong", among others. All the newly selected Chinese characters symbolize the spirit and hard work of Hong Kong people. Iris and Kelvin have spent two full days to design and produce the mini bun tower.
